Early this month, South Carolina reached the 2-year anniversary of the devastating October 2015 rain event, offering a natural opportunity to pause and observe the many tragedies that the widespread flooding wrought, and the many triumphs of recovery that have followed. The Midlands Flood Recovery Group, for its part, celebrated a significant milestone in its flood recovery narrative this month: the 200th home repaired by the group and the gift of a restored home for one resilient flood survivor.

First Look Inside the In-Demand Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner

Boeing recently unveiled a newly painted Singapore Airlines 787-10 Dreamliner as one of the company’s recent advancements to full-scale production of its newest aircraft.

Photos from early October show the twin-aisle jet after a visit to the North Charleston plant’s new paint facility. The plane is one of three Dash 10s that have been built so far in South Carolina. The aircraft continue to undergo system checks, fueling and engine tests.

Rep. James Smith Announces His Bid for Governor

S.C. Rep. James Smith, D-Richland, formally announces his gubernatorial bid on Oct. 17, 2017.

Richland Democrat Rep. James Smith formally kicked off his gubernatorial campaign Tuesday in downtown Columbia.

Smith, 50, is a Columbia native who has served in the South Carolina House of Representatives since 1997.

Smith is running against Charleston businessman Phil Noble in the June 12 Democratic primary.

Flood Recovery Stalls For Retired Veteran; Homeowner Warns About Contractor Fraud

Since 2005, the National Center for Disaster Fraud (NCDF) has received over 70,000 complaints from 50 states, 6 territories, and 4 countries involving over 50 natural and man-made disasters. Retired Army Major Miguel Santana says after the October 2015 flood, he became a victim of contractor fraud. His costly mistake is stalling recovery for what was to be his retirement home.
