Did you know June is Children's Awareness Month? This special month focuses on the next generation of leaders who will pave the way for the future. Often children and teen programming are great avenues to help educate and inform.

The Tape Vault team along with Media Operations have been super busy this year.  We will be bringing you a ton of children and teen shows for our "Summer of Nostalgia" starting June 4, 2025. 

We will kick off this series with Jump Over the Moon on June 4, followed by Under the Blue Umbrella on Fridays in June.  Check below for the full listing which includes Pass It Along, Under the Yellow Balloon, Studio See and Sandlapper's Corner.

Jump Over the Moon

Sharing Literature with Young Children

Hosted by Rick Sebak in 1981, Jump Over the Moon explored how books could introduce children to all aspects of life.

 

Under the Blue Umbrella

Produced in the 1970s by Dr. Sandra Thomas, Under the Blue Umbrella was televised in schools and focused on a single subject in each episode. The program was nationally syndicated to PBS stations.

Sandlapper's Corner

Sandlapper’s Corner was a children's educational program that began airing on SCETV in the 1970s. Produced by Dr. Sandra G. Thomas the show was about South Carolina—its people and places, its present and past. 

We have been adding these episodes to scetv.org since January 2025. There is a total of 26 programs from this classics series and they will all be available at the end of June.

Under the Yellow Balloon

Produced in the 1980s by Dr. Sandra Thomas, Under the Yellow Balloon was televised in schools and focused on a single subject in each episode. The program was nationally syndicated to PBS stations.

  • July 11, 2025 - Under the Yellow Balloon, Programs 5-8
  • July 18, 2025 - Under the Yellow Balloon, Programs 9-12

Pass It Along

Pass It Along was an eight-episode children's educational program produced in 1985 in cooperation with the Center for Environmental Education, the SC Department of Education Office of Instructional Technology and South Carolina ETV. 

  • July 9, 2025 - Pass It Along, Programs 1-4
  • July 16, 2025 - Pass It Along, Programs 5-8

Studio See was a magazine-style children's television show for 10 to 15-year-olds that aired from January 22, 1977, to March 26, 1979, on PBS. Created by Jayne Adair, Studio See was produced by South Carolina ETV and shot nationwide with the help of other PBS member stations.
