"The situation is that we need to begin to prepare. We'll provide the best updates as we can. We know there's a hurricane coming in our direction, but we don't know if it will hit us, where, or when. We need to take precautions," Governor Henry McMaster said. During at 1:00pm press conference at the South Carolina Emergency Management Division he declared a state of emergency for South Carolina. McMaster issued a state of emergency because of the potential of hurricane coming to state.
It's important to note this is not an evacuation order. McMaster is urging South Carolinians to prepare themselves for a hurricane.
"The state and local organizations are preparing now. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. Now is a good time to determine what papers you may need if you have to leave your home. We'll know more tomorrow." McMaster added that he is in constant communication with a wide variety of organizations and encouraged everyone to visit SCEMD for information on how to get prepared.
