President Obama signed a declaration declaring a disaster in South Carolina and ordered federal aid to supplement the recovery in affected areas. The action makes funds available to individuals in Charleston, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, and Williamsburg counties.
Grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and low cost loans for uninsured property loss are among the programs to help individuals and business owners that have been impacted by the flooding.
Funding is also available to state and local governments for emergency work as it pertains to damage from the storm.
In a release from the White House FEMA said "that damage surveys are continuing in other areas, and additional counties may be designated for assistance after the assessments are fully completed."
Beginning tomorrow, residents and business owners can apply by registering online at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.
