Leadership Center offers local girls the opportunity to innovate

Walking into the transformed business center, one can clearly tell this space was designed for fun. It’s hard to take your eyes off of the multicolor rock wall that spans two floors. This is the Cathy Novinger Leadership Center and it’s a space for South Carolina Girl Scouts living in 22 counties across the state.

Girls Scouts is a leadership development organization for girls with programs established across the world. The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

“We wanted a state-of-the-art leadership center for our girls and for our community,” says Lora Tucker, CEO, Girls Scouts Mountains to the Midlands.

The Cathy Novinger Girl Scout Leadership Center allows G.I.R.L.s to participate in indoor and outdoor activities in the five areas of leadership development: Arts, Business Enterprise, Healthy Living, Outdoor Education and STEM.

“I think it’s important for there to be a central location for the girls to come and do all of these activities that they need to do. It’s hard to find space for us, as leaders, to run things, so this gives council a nice focus,” says Tracy Seiler, a co-troop leader.

During this challenging time, many Girl Scouts are selling cookies in creative, socially distant, and contact-free ways to keep themselves and their customers safe. They are adapting to share the joy of Girl Scout Cookies through the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program.

Tucker adds, “when I think about Girl Scouts, one of the things is that it is delivered by our volunteers. They are just incredible women that deliver girl scouting and we couldn’t do it without them.”
