As we step into May, this month’s programming highlights resilience, creativity and the importance of mental health.
Around the topic of mental health, Drunk on Too Much Life takes viewers on a journey of a young woman's path from psychiatric institutions to newfound meaning on May 4 at 8 p.m. on ETV World. Later in the month on ETV, SCETV Safe Space "Never Alone, " airing May 29 at 7 p.m., brings attention to the profound impact of bullying and the lasting grief experienced by those left behind.
Creativity and expression play vital roles in well-being, and we are excited to present SC On Display: The Murals of Rock Hill on May 8 at 8 p.m., with an encore presentation on May 11 at 3:30 p.m. This documentary showcases nearly 20 large-scale murals that reflect Rock Hill’s rich culture and spirit. Books By The River premieres with a new season and a new name on May 4 at 5 p.m. The Lowcountry literary program continues the celebration of Southern literature and the authors who bring the stories to life.
Returning this month is SCETV’s original digital series Curiosity Trek!. Season 2 premieres May 20 across SCETV’s digital platforms, with a new episode released each week. This engaging series tells the stories of historic people and events through the artifacts left behind—offering a unique lens on resilience and legacy across generations. As we look to honor those whose stories have shaped our past, we also come together as a nation with the National Memorial Day Concert, airing May 25 at 8 p.m., a powerful tradition that unites us in remembrance and gratitude for those who gave their lives in service to our country.
In addition to our programming, SCETV is honored to host two special events this month. On May 14, we welcome renowned filmmaker Ken Burns to Charleston for an exclusive preview of The American Revolution, premiering in November. This event, presented in collaboration with the College of Charleston, SC250 and SC250 Charleston, will include a screening of excerpts from the documentary and a discussion with Burns. In partnership with the ETV Endowment, the hosts of the popular SC Public Radio show A Way with Words will share their insights on language, culture and communication in an engaging and interactive event in Columbia on May 15.
As we reflect on the wonderful programming our network offers, I also invite you invite you to participate in Public Media Giving Days on May 1 and 2 in support of our SC Public Radio and ETV network programming. Your commitment enables us to continue our mission to amplify voices, provide educational experiences and strengthen communities while working to create a stronger, more connected and informed South Carolina.
