'Southern Sound' series returning to SC Public Radio in November

South Carolina Public Radio (SC Public Radio) today announced plans to broadcast performances recorded during the McCelvey Center’s Southern Sound series over the last seven years. Airing Saturdays in November from 6 – 8 p.m., the series will be broadcast on all SC Public Radio stations located across South Carolina.

Marking the second consecutive year of this partnership, these radio broadcasts will feature performances by the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Tim O’Brien and Darrell Scott, Della Mae, Ruthie Foster, Chatham County Line and Steep Canyon Rangers.

The McCelvey Center is the original site of the Yorkville Female Academy founded in 1852 and includes the 500-seat Lowry Family Theater, which hosts all Southern Sound performances. Noted for its remarkable acoustics, the historic theater aims to present the unique heritage of the Carolina Piedmont through the performing arts while also maintaining a quality venue for community enrichment. Located in York, S.C., the facility is currently operated and maintained by Culture & Heritage Museums.

Now in its 49th year of broadcasting, SC Public Radio reaches more than 300,000 listeners each week. With eight transmitters located across the state, the network offers two formats – News and Talk and News and Music. Those without access to the network’s terrestrial broadcast signal can livestream both formats via southcarolinapublicradio.org and the SCETV app.
