COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) today announced “Carolina Country with Patrick Davis & Friends” – a film screening and concert event taking place September 10, 2019 at SCETV’s headquarters in Columbia. The event is part of the network’s ongoing engagement campaign around the premiere of Ken Burns’ new PBS documentary film, “Country Music.”

Featuring South Carolina native Patrick Davis and several other country music songwriters, the live concert portion of the event will give each artist an opportunity to perform two to three songs and explain the background and personal stories behind the songs’ lyrics. The hour-long concert will be taped live and will air on SCETV Wednesday, September 18 at 7 p.m.

The September 10 event will begin at 5:30 p.m. as food and beverage truck vendors will be onsite serving barbecue, beer and other refreshments. At 6:30 p.m., a half-hour preview of the new “Country Music” documentary series will take place on a large screen outside. Following the film screening, attendees that are pre-registered to attend the concert will move inside to the ETV studio.

Although space is limited inside the studio, the concert will be streamed live on the large screen outside for guests not registered to attend the indoor portion of the event.

Premiering Sunday, September 15 at 8 p.m., Ken Burns’ “Country Music” explores the remarkable stories of the people and places behind one of America’s unique art forms. The eight-part, 16-hour series focuses on the biographies of the fascinating characters who created and shaped country music, as well as the times in which they lived.

QUOTES:

“Over the course of the 20th century, country music emerged as one of America’s most popular art forms. As we prepare to present that story on our airwaves with Ken Burns’ new film, this film screening and live concert event will give us a chance to shine a light on talented South Carolinians that use that art form to tell their stories.”SCETV President and CEO Anthony Padgett

“At the heart of every great country music song is a story. As the songwriter Harlan Howard said, ‘It’s three chords and the truth.’ The common experiences and human emotions speak to each of us about love and loss, about hard times and the chance of redemption. As an art form, country music is also forever revisiting its history, sharing and updating old classics and celebrating its roots, which are, in many ways, foundational to our country itself.”Director and Producer Ken Burns
