Made Here | Juvenile Justice System Youth Create and Sell Original Work

The Department of Juvenile Justice's Store of Hope sells products made by young people who are involved with the juvenile justice system. DJJ's Broad River Road campus includes six work-study programs for youth who have obtained a high school diploma or a G.E.D. and are in good standing in the system. The products made in the work-study programs are sold to the public through the Store of Hope. The money made in the store goes toward paying for the program, buying supplies, and paying the youth. Anthony, who is in the Upholstery work-study program, compares working on furniture to working on himself. He says, "Me and this furniture is alike because it comes to us broken and we get to redo them and make them new. It's like me. I came here broken and a little bit messed up. But throughout the time, I had people to help fix me, and be a better person, be a better man for society."

The Store of Hope is open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
