Flood risk: South Carolina's hot, muggy, and stormy days ahead
We close out the work week with active weather dominating South Carolina. There is a line of thunderstorms that will move over the state generally from west to east and will bring periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms, some of which could turn severe Thursday evening. The strongest storms will be focused along the northern half of the state, affecting the northern Midlands and the Pee Dee. Some of the strongest storms could produce minor flooding as well as damaging wind gusts.

South Carolina athletics worker who painted midfield logo for 40 football seasons has died
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Eddie Dunning, who painted the South Carolina Gamecock logo at midfield in Williams-Brice Stadium for 40 seasons, has died, university officials said. He was 69.
South Carolina's athletic department announced his death Wednesday. Dunning's obituary said he died on July 13 at a Columbia hospital. No cause of death was provided.

Furman professor wins research award
Over the past 18 years, our next guest worked with about 50 undergraduates to explore what he describes as one of the most fundamental chemical conundrums: how life emerged from a mixture of organic molecules in a lifeless environment. That research resulted in a patent being awarded, a company being formed, and recently, a 2024 South Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence in Scientific Research.
