Governor Henry McMaster to participate in annual briefing from leaders of Palmetto State military installations and Fort Gordon. South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs (SCDVA) to lead discussion.
October 3, 2023 COLUMBIA, S.C. – Prominent military leaders of South Carolina’s eight military installations and Fort Gordon will provide an update to Governor Henry McMaster, SCDVA Secretary Todd B. McCaffrey, Speaker of the House of Representatives Murrell Smith, South Carolina Military Base Task Force Chairman Dan Beatty, and several cabinet agency heads on challenges and opportunities in South Carolina and Fort Gordon, Georgia. The annual briefing will take place on Thursday, October 5th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Pastides Alumni Center main ballroom.
Secretary Todd B. McCaffrey will lead the discussion with the following military installation leaders:
• Colonel Kris Smith – Shaw Air Force Base
• Brigadier General Jason Kelly – Fort Jackson
• Colonel Mike Freeman – Joint Base Charleston
• Captain Frank DelRosso – Coast Guard
• Colonel Derek Roberson – Parris Island
• Colonel Mark Bortnem – MCAS Beaufort
• Captain Chad Roe – Beaufort Naval Hospital
• Major General Paul Stanton – Fort Gordon
• Major General Van McCarty – National Guard
Due to limited seating, the Commanders Brief to the Governor will not be open to the public. The event will be broadcast live on SCETV online and streamed live on SCDVA’s Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube pages (@4SCVETS). Media will be allowed to film or live stream the briefing in a designated area of the Pastides Alumni Center ballroom, 900 Senate Street in Columbia.

Governor Henry McMaster and SCDVA Secretary Todd B. McCaffrey will be available for media interviews in the Dawn Staley Conference Room in the Alumni Center immediately following the briefing.
