TraffickProofSC

The TraffickProofSC curriculum teaches students about human trafficking including warning signs, methods used by traffickers, and how to respond if they suspect someone of being a victim. Educators will receive instruction on how to deliver the content and are provided with a Facilitator’s Guide to assist with training topics and class activities.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this training, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the scope of human trafficking
  • Define human trafficking (sex trafficking and labor trafficking)
  • Understand social media’s role in human trafficking
  • Illustrate the differences between force, fraud, and coercion
  • Debunk misconceptions and myths surrounding human trafficking
  • Describe common trafficker profiles

  • How to respond if they suspect human trafficking
Datacasting

How can you send data and educational resources to reach all learners, even those without internet access? Datacasting is the answer. Learn about this exciting new initiative from SCETV that allows for data to be sent one-way from the educator to the learner. See how to create a personalized learning experience for students that would not otherwise have access to a multitude of online resources.

Fine Art Resources from SCETV and Beyond

Learn about all the awesome materials available from PBS, SCETV and other great institutions that focus on fine art and art history! In this session, participants will learn how famous artworks can be a great learning tool to help students understand difficult historical or cultural information.

By the end of this training, attendees should be able to:

  • Discover SCETV and PBS art and art history resources completely for free 
  • Find open, free, and online art galleries that will allow you to expose students to a world of culture 
  • Create a learning activity that utilizes visual art and art history in your learning environment 
Give Me a Minute

Do you need a fun, quick bellringer activity? Well, SCETV has you covered!  Smart Cat Exercises, Carolina Snaps, and South Carolina A-Z are all excellent ways to start your lesson. In this session, educators will learn how they can be used in the classroom. This would be a great resource for teachers to utilize paraphrasing, summarizing, and making critical decisions as to what facts to include and exclude.

By the end of this training, attendees should be able to: 

  • Devise a mini lesson using one of the featured resources.
  • Create cross-curricular opportunities using one or more of the featured resources
  • Create their own minute long podcast or video on a topic in which they are an expert and students can do the same
Interactive Interactions: Using SCETV Interactives and Mixed Reality to Engage Students

Engage with your students on another level with the help of new accessible technology! In this session, participants will learn about the great interactives and augmented reality experiences available to you for free from KnowItAll.org, PBS LearningMedia and other great educational resources!

  • Find free SCETV and PBS mixed reality and interactive assets to use in the classroom 
  • Learn how you can use mixed reality, games, and interactives to engage students

The Lowdown with PBS LearningMedia

 Do you want to know more about PBS LearningMedia? This session is a deep dive of the many features available through PBSLM. This is a detailed workshop for educators to explore and create using PBSLM. Participants will create lessons, assignments, and classes that can be utilized throughout the school year.

By the end of this training, attendees should be able to: 

  • Build a lesson, create assignments, and create classes
  • Share lessons with other educators though a Professional Learning Network
  • Become an ambassador to share with other educators
Professional Development in a Nutshell     

This session is suited for Social Studies and ELA teachers. Have you seen SCETV’s History In A Nutshell? Short, sweet, and to the point - join our cartoon host as he takes viewers on journeys through significant historical events in world history! This session utilizes History In A Nutshell images as primary sources analysis content and the videos as secondary sources. This can be used to focus on the Evidence part of the Social Studies standards and the inferencing, summarizing, creating captions, bibliography, and further research using informational text and information in an ELA classroom.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop attendees should be able to: 

  • Demonstrate how to utilize primary and secondary sources in the classroom using History In A Nutshell
  • Create an activity using the videos and additional resources as a research topic and bibliography sources
  • Discuss what topics could be included for future episodes and at what part of the school year they would be most beneficial
SCETV Educational Resources 101

SCETV offers a variety of resources and services to support South Carolina’s educators, students, and families. This workshop is an introduction to all things SCETV Education including free, high-quality digital content, standards-based lesson plans specific to South Carolina, informative blogs, teacher recertification courses, and more. Come and learn how to incorporate these resources into your learning community! This workshop can be customized to include specific subjects, too.

  • Locate free ETV and PBS resources to support their learning community

Virtual Field Trips with Let’s Go

Did you know that SCETV has a FREE 3D virtual field trip series, Let’s Go? This award-winning series guides users on an unforgettable virtual tour of state treasures and historical sites. For teachers seeking free and accessible field trip options, Let’s Go is an excellent resource. During this workshop, participants will engage in activities that support the integration of virtual reality into classroom learning.

Instructional Technology

3D Printing 101

3D printing, or additive manufacturing, is now more accessible than ever for educators and students due to the open-source nature of the technology and as 3D printers and the materials used for printing become more affordable. Learn about what 3D printing is, how it is used in other industries, and how you can use it in the classroom to engage with students in STEAM.

  • Learn the history and application of 3D printing 
  • Discover how 3D printing is used in other industries 
  • Create 3D objects simply and freely using Tinkercad 
Amplifying Student Voice  

Do you remember the adage that children should be seen, but not heard? Well, that is not the case anymore. Diverse student voices and perspectives need to be embraced and supported. SCETV can assist with incorporating student voices into instruction. During this workshop, participants will learn strategies and tools to bring out your students’ voices. This will highlight youth media productions from various stations in the PBS and NPR system.

Canva 101 

You’ve heard of it, come learn to use it! In this workshop, participants will go over the basics of the free parts of Canva and an overview of creating eye-catching and fun materials. Canva is a great free resource for teachers, learn from a graphic designer on how to make the most of what is offered!

  • Evaluate how to use Canva like a graphic designer 
  • Learn basic graphic design tips and tricks to make using Canva a breeze 
  • Create your own Canva resource to use in your learning environment 
Create Engaging Instructional Videos

How can you be in two places at the same time? Well, one way is using instructional videos. Also, videos are a wonderful way to engage with distanced students, a fantastic option for the virtual classroom, and an extra element to homework and studying that can help drive home key concepts in an interesting way. SCETV can assist you with creating fun and engaging instructional videos to use in your learning environment. Through a variety of resources and tips, you can create instructional videos to reach all learners.

Navigating Creative Commons: Sourcing High Quality Media Assets

Tired of finding the perfect picture only for it to be covered in watermarks or pixelated? How about not being able to find that perfect picture? In this training, we will show you how to source high quality media assets using free resources on the web.

  • Learn tips and tricks on using Google to find high quality media assets 
  • Access where to source media assets that are accurate, engaging, provide context, and free 
  • Understand what Creative Commons means and how you can use it 
Podcasts and Playlists

Do you want to integrate the arts and auditory learning into your classroom? SCETV can help with that. Learn how to integrate podcasts and playlists into any classroom to differentiate instruction and reach all learners. During this workshop, participants will learn how to create playlists and find podcasts to enhance teaching and learning.

Resources for the “New Classroom”

This workshop covers the essential characteristics of the “new classroom.”  Characteristics to be discussed include flexible course design, intentional tech integration, assessment, and teacher engagement. In addition to tech resources to address each characteristic, this training also explores strategies for implementation.

By the end of this training attendees should be able to:

  • Identify technology tools for providing feedback to students
  • Effectively pair tech tools for instruction and assessment
  • Create at least one flexible assignment for classroom implementation
Thinking like a Designer: Creating and Finding Media for Classroom Use

Think like a designer to make visually striking and engaging media to use in assignments or supplement lesson plans. Create a brand for your classroom, learn how to plan like a pro designer, and get a taste of creating assets from scratch using nothing but your smartphone.

  • Discover tools available to create eye-catching documents
  • Learn how to plan and map out the creation of educational assets
