On Season 1 of Books By the River, Holly Jackson sits down with bestselling author Susan Boyer to discuss her latest novel, set in the charming coastal town of Sullivan’s Island.

Susan M. Boyer is the USA TODAY bestselling author of the Liz Talbot mystery series, which includes eleven full-length novels and one novella. Her debut novel, Lowcountry Boil, won the 2012 Agatha Award for Best First Novel, and her books have received multiple accolades, including the Daphne du Maurier Award and nominations for the Pat Conroy Beach Music Mystery Prize.

In addition to the Liz Talbot series, Boyer launched a new series with Big Trouble on Sullivan’s Island, which won a 2024 Independent Publisher Book Award. Her novels, often set in small Southern towns, are filled with beaches, Southern food and quirky characters.

A native of Greenville, SC, Boyer loves the Southern lifestyle and frequently visits the Carolina coast. She and her husband live in Greenville, where she continues to write and enjoy the charm of small-town life.
