This week was another adventurous one. Not only did I get to start working with the footage from some previous shoots but I also had the opportunity to tag along on a shoot in the Low Country. We spent the day visiting the Barrier Island Oyster Company, located on Ocella Creek. One of the best things about being an intern here is that you get the opportunity to visit unique places and learn about such a large variety of things. I am learning about media production and building skills to help me in my professional life but I am also learning more about South Carolina than I ever would have thought. For instance, thanks to ETV I have learned that oysters have a unique “merrior” and that our locally grown oysters have a much different flavor than that of other states. ETV has allowed me to visit so many interesting places and I’ve learned about something new going on in the state on every single shoot that I have been on. From stopping for a bite to eat at a local restaurant to enjoying the most loved vacations sites around town, the shoots I have been on have provided me with, not only work experience, but fun cultural experiences as well. Being an intern at ETV is making me so much more aware of the culture that is going on in my state. I already have so much more appreciation for the events and attractions that S.C. has to offer. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to grow so much this summer, in work experience and in admiration of South Carolina.
Favorite part of week 3: Taking advantage of new experiences. Wednesday I found myself standing on a boat, being handed a single shell oyster that had just been pulled out of the water, shucked by the person who grew it. As someone who typically doesn’t like seafood, I was a little hesitant, but I tried it. ETV has allowed me to get some great new experiences like this that I know I will remember for years to come. I may not have the acquired taste for oysters that some do, but I can now hold my own in a round of oyster trivia.
