Transcript (edited for clarity):

RUDY MANCKE:

Hi, this is Rudy Mancke from USC for NatureNotes.

Edward lives in Florence County, SC, and sent me a photograph of an animal that was walking through his yard and he wondered whether it was a fox or a coyote. And it was a gray fox. Foxes are smaller than coyotes.

But the gray fox has a gray body with a little bit of reddish on the neck, as did this one, and a black tip on the tail that really runs down the top of the tail.

So gray fox, it's one of the two foxes we've got. And this is the fox that is able to climb trees and oftentimes hides because nobody's looking up. When they see something like this go by, they keep looking on the ground. Gray fox can climb right up the side of a tree. Red foxes never could do that.
