LEGISLATIVE COVERAGE

Summary

The House amended and passed several education bills. H. 3257, would require students in middle school in high school complete courses on mental health and wellness. H. 3199 would add information about student loans to financial literacy classes high school students take. H. 4403 amends harassment bullying procedures to responding to intimidation and bullying. Districts must adopt a policy for victims and perpetrators.  H. 4076 to ombudsman to help understand student loans. H. 4404 addresses nursing shortage to help provide an easier pathway for veterans who wish to transition from military medics into civilian nursing to obtain a degree. H. 3695. H. 4202 certificate of foreign birth. Bill will allow south Carolina child born abroad to receive a certificate of foreign birth. H.4811 wingwalls as erosion control devices.  H. 4504 regulating waste tire facility. Would prevent waste tire facilities that are under suspension from taking on more tires while under investigation.

House Speaker Jay Lucas said members wouldn’t be in for long Wednesday since the chamber would be getting prepared for Gov. Henry McMaster’s State of the State address that evening.
