TWISC: 2019 Senate Legislative Agenda

Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey, R-Edgefield, and Senate Minority Leader Nikki Setzler, D-Lexington, sat down with host Gavin Jackson to talk about the Senate’s legislative priorities for the 2019 legislative session, especially  education reform.

Massey and Setzler made it clear that there are positive efforts within the Senate and parties to work with Gov. Henry McMaster and the House to move toward education reform.

Massey said there has been a long “fight for education reform…for a number of years.” He said that he’s glad the two parties and the governor are able to work together – defying what most people might think about their ability to get something positive done.”

Setzler summed up the entire interview and actions being made with a simple “big changes in education are going to require unity.”

He also said they would like to cover specific issues “related to K-12 education and invite teachers to be a part of that process to make sure [the state] is providing children with the educational opportunities they need to succeed.”

They both agreed there is a lot more momentum going toward education reform and that will definitely be a major factor in getting the ball rolling.
