Tornado Watches This Morning

A Tornado Watch is in effect for much of the Upstate region until 8 AM, while the Midlands and Lowcountry is under a Tornado Watch until 11 AM. Additional watches are likely to be issued for the Pee Dee and Grand Strand areas later this morning.

Thunderstorms have produced several damaging wind reports over some Upstate communities between 1 and 4:30 AM, along with an apparent tornado touch down based on an analysis of radar data near Clemson around 1:30 AM.

Storms will be in the Rock Hill, Columbia, and North Augusta areas between 5 and 8 AM. They are expected to reach Florence, Sumter, and Orangeburg between 8 and 10 AM, and finally the immediate coast of the Grand Strand and Lowcounty (including Charleston and Myrtle Beach) between 9 and 11 AM this morning. The storms are forecast to move offshore this afternoon. The environment is favorable for strong tornadoes and damaging straight-line winds. Seek sturdy shelter immediately if a warning is issued for your area.
