UPDATE as of Noon EDT Thursday:
The Enhanced Risk has lessened across the Palmetto State for Thursday with most of the heavy activity expected to be in the southeast part of the state.
A Slight Risk (risk level 2 out of 5) is in place for eastern parts of the Midlands and out towards the Atlantic coast of South Carolina.
On Thursday morning a powerful low pressure system was moving through the central Gulf Coast states producing strong to severe thunderstorms. This low pressure will continue to move eastward Thursday and into the overnight Friday.
Thursday early afternoon will see breezy and overcast conditions followed by showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon hours lasting into the overnight Friday.
While the threat across South Carolina has lessened since Wednesday there is still a chance for strong thunderstorms to impact the state. Hazards a likely to include damaging straight-line winds in excess of 60 mph, large hail, and tornadoes. Localized flooding will also be a possibility with these storms.

Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes are possible for the third week in a row across South Carolina, beginning Thursday.
Forecasters at NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. updated their risk area Wednesday afternoon with the enhanced risk (risk level 3 out of 5) encompassing most of the Palmetto State. The Blue Ridge area of the state will be under a “Slight Risk” (level 2 out of 5). Forecasters have addressed the possibility of significant severe storms, including the potential for strong tornadoes.
On Wednesday, a low pressure system began to strengthen and move east into east Texas and Louisiana producing damaging winds, large hail and prompting a tornado watch to be issued.
This storm system will move through the Deep South and approach South Carolina by as early as the overnight hours tonight. Severe conditions are not expected for this evening , however, beginning Thursday winds are forecast to strengthen and this could contribute to rotating storms in the afternoon and evening hours.
Tornadoes, along with large hail and damaging winds will be possible in some of these supercell thunderstorms through the day on Thursday. Heavy rain and localized flooding will also be possible.
This severe risk will decrease early Friday morning as the storm system pushes offshore into the Atlantic. Dry conditions will briefly enter into the region, however, scattered showers are likely for the start of the weekend.
