Widespread Frost for Upstate, Midlands This Weekend

Frost Advisory for the Midlands and Upstate

Update as of 2:30 PM Friday: The Frost Advisory has been expanded to include the Midlands early Saturday morning, and continues for the Upstate.

The growing season is likely to come to an end this weekend, especially in the Upstate, on the heels of the coldest air mass of the season so far.

The National Weather Service posted Frost Advisories for the Greenville-Spartanburg, Greenwood, Anderson, and Rock Hill areas, which will start at 2 AM Saturday and expire at 9 AM Saturday. Temperatures below 35 degrees will result in frost formation which can kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.

Lows Saturday Morning

Temperatures are forecast to dip into the upper 30s in outlying areas of the Midlands Saturday morning. As of Friday morning, there were no frost advisories for the Midlands, but the National Weather Service in Columbia said that patches of frost are possible and that they may issue frost advisories later Friday.

Strong high pressure is forecast to move closer to the state Saturday night, resulting in light winds and clear skies. These conditions are favorable for another round of frost and possibly freezing temperatures first thing on Sunday morning. Temperatures are forecast to moderate early next week as winds blow in from the warmer Atlantic Ocean.
