Another Round of Strong Storms is Headed for South Carolina

Update 7 pm Monday:  A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for the Upstate region through 1 am.  Strong storms are moving into the region and have the potential to produce damaging wind and hail.

Another round of strong thunderstorms is headed for parts of South Carolina Monday evening. Damaging straight-line winds and large hail are both possible with the strongest storms.

The next storm system, in what has been a series of them, will move into the Ohio River Valley Monday night. While it won’t cross directly over South Carolina, the tail end of a cold front will provide enough lift to produce the strong thunderstorms. Wind gusts up to 60 mph, torrential downpours, hail, and even an isolated tornado are all possible with the strongest cells.

Thunderstorms will enter the Upstate after 6 pm and approach the Greenville-Spartanburg area soon after. The cells will then move southeastward into the Midlands between 9 pm and midnight, followed by a weakening trend as they move toward the Atlantic Coast overnight.

Quieter weather is expected across all of South Carolina Tuesday.
