South Carolina ETV to host free "Meet the Helpers" Community Engagement Fair October 26

Meet the Helpers

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) will host a “Meet the Helpers” Community Engagement Fair Saturday, October 26, from 11a.m. – 2 p.m. at the agency’s Telecommunications Center, located at 1041 George Rogers Blvd. in Columbia, S.C.

The event is free and open to the public and will feature multiple public safety services and partners. Among those represented will be the S.C. Emergency Management Division, Lexington County Emergency Medical Services, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, S.C. Fire Academy, Office of the State Fire Marshal, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, S.C. Highway Patrol, City of Columbia Police Department, Columbia Fire Department, S.C. Department of Mental Health, South Carolina Healthcare Emergency Amateur Radio Team, members of the “Live PD” cast and many others.

Intended to showcase the community helpers that are available for support in times of crisis, this family-friendly event will include demonstrations from community partners, presentations from select agencies, promotional giveaways and appearances by SCETV’s Smart Cat and Clifford the Big Red Dog.

This event is supported by a community engagement grant received by SCETV to promote the nationwide “Meet the Helpers” initiative. Created by WUCF in Florida, “Meet the Helpers” is a public media initiative designed to introduce children and their families to community helpers and promote emergency preparedness. One of the primary goals is to provide a positive interaction between participants and our community helpers and promote various public safety careers and resources for early learners.
