COLUMBIA, S.C. – “By the River” – a weekly show that features discussions with authors from South Carolina and around the Southeast – is returning for season two Thursday, September 5, at 8 p.m. on South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV). Produced in partnership between SCETV and the University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB), season two of “By the River” will feature 14 episodes.

Cassandra King Conroy, the widow of Pat Conroy, will be the featured guest in the first episode. Among the other authors to appear in season two are Patti Callahan Henry, Sallie Ann Robinson, Robert Hicks, J.C. Sasser, George Singleton, Bren McClain, Rebecca Bruff, F. Rutledge Hammes, Larry Rowland, Debbi Convington, Lisa Ann Cullen, Randy Spencer and Kim Michele.

As part of the collaboration with USCB, students in the school’s communication studies program are heavily involved in the production of “By the River.” This season, a new set was designed and constructed, with assistance from those students.

QUOTES:

“We’re proud to partner with USCB to bring ‘By the River’ back for a second season. South Carolina has a rich literary legacy, and this project allows us to highlight that legacy while also giving students a chance to learn firsthand all that goes into creating a television show.” –SCETV President and CEO Anthony Padgett

“This opportunity embodies everything that USCB and SCETV bring to our students and the community: experiential learning and quality programming. These students are getting hands-on experience in every aspect of show production. The fact that they can go to a potential employer with the knowledge of what goes into a production before, during and after is an advantage in the hiring process.” –USCB Professor and “By the River” Producer Dr. Caroline Sawyer
