Dear Viewers and Listeners:
SCETV celebrates its 60th anniversary this month. In September 1958, a closed-circuit transmission of a Frenchclass from Dreher High School to other schools was the start of what has grown into a state-wide telecommunications system that broadcasts award-winning TV and radio programs for all South Carolinians.
The Great American Read broadcasts the results of a national campaign to find America’s 100 best-loved books. Viewers voted over the summer, and the winners are highlighted in eight specials, each with its own theme.
New this month, The Amazing Human Body uses cutting-edge graphics to explore the mysterious and sophisticated organism that is our body, and the many miraculous ways it keeps us alive. The dashing Poldark is back for a new season, bringing a change of scene as Ross heads off to Westminster.
By the River is a new SCETV series produced in collaboration with USC-Beaufort, which showcases Lowcountry authors. Host Holly Bounds Jackson of ETV Lowcountry welcomes a variety of writers who discuss their lives, work, and inspirations. Mart to Art explores the history of an iconic mill in Barnwell County, founded in 1925 and is today the home of an art gallery.
SC Public Radio bids farewell to two iconic series that have been staples in the NPR line-up. Our own award-winning Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz signs off this month after an almost 40-year run, with an archive of over 700 programs available for educational use. Tom and Ray Magliozzi’s Car Talk leaves the schedule after three decades; episodes can be streamed online at cartalk.com/podcast.
We congratulate the ETV Endowment on its seventh consecutive 4-star rating from Charity Navigator; and we thank you, our members, for your trust and support.
