President's Corner Monthly Newsletter, June 2016

May 30, 2016 - Posted in SCETV

Dear Viewers and Listeners:

Expeditions with Patrick McMillan begins a new national season this month. Presented in partnership with Clemson University, this series travels the globe, as biologist and educator Patrick McMillan, PhD, introduces viewers to the wide variety of animal and plant life found around the world.

To commemorate the year anniversary of the tragic shooting in Charleston, SCETV encores America After Charleston, a town hall discussion that showcases the power of civil dialogue to confront the issues of race and identity. Our own Palmetto Scene also observes this event with a special that looks back as well as forward to the healing and progress our state has accomplished.

We are extremely proud that ETV productions have been recipients of several recent awards. Chef Vivian Howard, host of our popular A Chef’s Life series, has won Outstanding Personality/Host in the 2016 James Beard Foundation awards. The Carrier Will Lead, a theater presentation, has been awarded a Silver Telly, the Telly Awards’ highest honor, as well as a Bronze Telly for outstanding achievement. The program, which features first-person accounts of the heroic actions of the pilots and crew of aircraft carriers from World War II, will be shown to visitors of the USS Yorktown at Patriot’s Point.

South Carolina Public Radio’s production Song Travels has also been recognized by the industry. Two episodes—with guests Jose James and Barbara Carroll—have won an Award of Distinction in the 22nd Annual Communicator Awards, which honors creative excellence for communication professionals. Song Travels’ episode with Justin Kauflin has been honored with a Gabriel Award, which recognizes the best in artistic, creative, and inspirational media presentation.

The Spoleto Festival USA continues in Charleston, and highlights can be heard on S.C. Public Radio’s  Sonatas and Soundscapes as well as NPR’s Performance Today. S.C. Public Radio also offers the Chamber Music Concerts from this season—a quick turnaround for listeners—airing weekdays at 11 a.m. beginning June 3.

As always, we thank you for helping us bring you exceptional, unique and award-winning programming.
