Mobile Meals under COVID-19

Mobile Meals is a nonprofit organization that provides nutritious meals, services and fellowship to the frail and homebound citizens in Spartanburg County. Each weekday, approximately 150 volunteers dedicate their time to deliver meals to approximately 1,500 vulnerable recipients throughout the county. Mobile Meals also delivers love, compassion and hope to those in need.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on Mobile Meals. Since most volunteers are elderly and need to be self-quarantined, they are no longer available to deliver meals. “But every challenge comes with its blessings,” said Jayne McQueen, president & CEO of Mobile Meal. With the support from the entire community, Mobile Meals continues to carry on its operation. They are closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation, taking precautions to protect these high-risk individuals, as well as their volunteers and staff members, and adjusting delivering services as needed.

Via online interviews, Mrs. McQueen and two Mobile Meals directors tell us how their organization responded to the new challenges in this uncertain time.
