I Heart Hungry Kids

There’s a kid-powered organization in the Lowcountry helping feed kids.

In 2013, seven year-old Jackson Silverman was told he was too young to volunteer at the food bank and help feed hungry kids in Charleston County. With the support of his parents, Josh and Tiffany, Jackson pleaded for the rules to be changed so he and his younger twin brothers, Gabe and Riley, could volunteer.

Jackson met with the Lowcountry Food Bank president and they figured out a way for the kids to be safe in a warehouse environment. Together, they created a place where kids under the age of 14 could volunteer and help make a difference in their community.

On April 22, 2018, I Heart Hungry Kids celebrated its fifth anniversary and reached 200,000 bags of food packed for food insecure children to take home on the weekends through the BackPack Buddies program in schools.
