Hello everyone! My name is Imelda Golden, but I go by Mel! I am so excited to be serving as a SCETV Endowment Intern for the Summer of 2018. I am working at the ETV Lowcountry - Beaufort station. As of today, I am in day five and completing my first week as an intern. My fellow intern, Cassidy, and I have started sharing our daily intern adventures on the ETV Lowcountry Facebook group. My supervisor, Holly, fellow intern, Cassidy, and I are on a mission to capture the beauty and the rich culture of all the locations that SCETV Lowcountry reaches.
Today I would like to share with everyone the stunning beauty of Beaufort, S.C. and its neighbor, Saint Helena Island, S.C. I actually live on Saint Helena and recently graduated from the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL) with an Associate's degree. The reason I mention TCL is because the Beaufort studio is located on the TCL - Beaufort campus. Although I am not a native of the Beaufort area, I am a local. It has been absolutely fun traveling around Beaufort County and sharing my knowldge about the rich history and culture of the surrounding areas with Cassidy and my amazing supervisor, Holly. One of the first stops we made was at the Henry C. Chamber Waterfront Park, or as us locals simply call it, the Waterfront. There we were able to snap some beautiful pictures of the boat marina, the new dock, and of the bridge. Afterwards, we walked around the shoppe side of the park and snapped pictures of the different street signs and the old shoppe signs.
After our scenic photo shoot of downtown Beaufort, we headed to Saint Helena Island and visited the Hunting Island State Park. Hunting Island is a can't-miss stop for anyone visiting the area. With beautiful beaches that stretch out for miles and a beautiful landscape covered with lush green plants, it really is a one-of-a-kind place. I also cannot forget to mention how much fun it is to climb the lighthouse! It is a long climb to the top, but the view is breathtaking!
Thursday we went to Hardeeville, S.C. and visited the beautiful Sgt. Jasper Park and got some beautiful pictures of the trail and pond. We were left awestruck by the natural beauty that our state posseses. The gazebo over the pond transforms you to another place. It is absolutley beautiful. As the light summer breeze hits you, you can hear the bull frogs croak, and you can see a flock of birds fly overhead. As the sun slowly starts to set, the pond's calm surface ripples as a school of playful fish swim by.
I can't express enough how proud I am to be from the Lowcountry and how excited I am to be able to be part of an organiation that values people and education and helps to unite everyone with knowledge.
I don’t know where we will go next, but I do know that we’re in for a great run!
