ORIGINAL SC | Behind the Scenes with the Sea Turtles of the South Carolina Aquarium

January 8, 2016 - Posted in Local by Tabitha Safdi

South Carolina's 187 miles of coast is enjoyed by millions year round and Kelly Thorvalson of the South Carolina Aquarium is here to protect it. Thorvalson has one of the most unique jobs in the nurse sick and injured sea turtles back to health. The Sea Turtle Hospital at the South Carolina Aquarium is a Southeast one-of-a-kind operation. The staff often works nights, weekends, holidays and they are always on-call in case of a turtle stranding.

I didn't know exactly what to expect pulling up to the aquarium. Just like every girl, at some point our childhood we wish to become marine biologist. So, this topic was exciting. I would be getting and up close and personal view of sea turtles! Trekking equipment into the turtle hospital, the first thing I think anyone would be in awe over is the size of these creatures. They are beautiful. Learning about these sea turtles was an amazing experience. To see the full Original SC video click here.
