Extended Interviews On Sex Education Bill
The Comprehensive Health Act was passed in the late 1980s mandating that sex education be taught in public schools in South Carolina. This session, a new bill amending the sex education practices in the state was put forth in the House, where it passed quickly. The bill looks to update the current sex education, mandating clear, accurate and up-to-date medical information. The bill was stalled in the Senate when Republican Sen. Mike Fair of Greenville put an objection on the legislation. Palmetto Scene spoke with Forrest Alton from the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy about why he thinks the bill is important. Sen. Fair also stopped by to speak with us at the State House to address why he opposes the bill. You can watch the full interviews above.
