Flip-flops are a year long staple in South Carolina. Unfortunately, there are dangers associated with wearing this popular footwear. Did you know that one pair of flip flops can carry more than 18,000 bacteria, which include Staphylococcus aureus and bacteria from fecal matter?

In a 2012 survey, 78 percent of American adults over the age of 21 reported having had some sort of foot pain or issue at some point in their lives. More than half reported having these issues at the time of the survey. Close to 2 million Americans suffer from the most treated flip flop injury -- plantar fascitis.

Many experts recommend limiting your time wearing flip flops. If you can't bear to part with your beloved shoes, shop for a flop that has thicker sole to provide your foot with more protection.
