Curious George, everyone’s favorite monkey, is back with a new season. New episodes from Season 10 premiere October 5-9.

 

From October 12-31, PBS KIDS will feature a spook-tacular variety of seasonal episodes and creepy specials. Stephen Rae is her new gentleman friend. Staunton stars as the inquisitive next-door neighbor. And David Bamber is the detective who tries to work out whether an unfortunate incident was an accident or a heinous crime.

Exhumed: The History of Zombies              Friday, October 30, 10 p.m.

There are few monsters more recognizable or popular than the zombie. The reanimated corpse appears across cultures and time periods, appearing in film, literature, and popular culture in staggering numbers -- but not everyone is aware of the zombie’s cultural significance over time. This program deconstructs some of the most significant moments in zombie popular culture over the last two centuries.

Touching the Sound traces the artistic development of young pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, from his early ability to play piano by ear, undeterred by his lifelong blindness, to his gold medal triumph in the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, to his debut at Carnegie Hall.

 

Carolina Classrooms: Reading to Learn: The Third Grade Pivot* airs Thursday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. on SCETV

Third grade is an important year for students to develop the reading skills necessary to continue their education. In fourth grade and beyond, the focus will shift from learning basic literacy skills to using those skills to learn and understanding new information.

Woodsmith Shop             Season 14 premieres October 3 at 10 a.m.

The season 14 premiere starts out with The Best Miter Saw Stand. On this episode of the Woodsmith Shop, the cast introduces the new shop space and gets started on making a mobile workcenter for the miter saw. It folds up for compact storage and features built-in dust control and an easy-to-build construction process.

 

Pati’s Mexican Table      Season 9 premieres October 3 at 11:30 a.m.

In this season of “Pati’s Mexican Table,” Pati explores one of Mexico’s largest states — Sonora. Her adventure takes her through the rugged, stunning views of the Sonoran desert to the sparkling and bountiful Sea of Cortez. She meets the inspiring and creative cooks and chefs behind Sonora’s incredibly bold cuisine along the way. Here in Mexico’s great wide-open northern territory of cattle ranches, wheat fields, and miles and miles of untouched beaches, Sonorans share a deep appreciation for the land and what it provides. Pati goes fishing for giant scallops, gets a taste of cowboy life on a Sonoran ranch, spends a day in the exciting and diverse capital city of Hermosillo, and enjoys classic Sonoran staples like flour tortillas, carne asada, coyotas, and shellfish pulled straight from the sea. Sonorans like to say they’re Mexico’s best-kept secret. Join Pati as she shares their secret with the world, bite by delicious, surprising incredible bite.

 

COBRA                                 Premieres October 4 – Sundays at 10 p.m. on SCETV

Follow the British Prime Minister and his Cabinet Office Briefing Room A (COBRA) committee, comprised of leading contingency planners and senior politicians, as they navigate the difficulties in overcoming a major national crisis.

 

Lidia’s Kitchen                 Season 8 premieres October 17 - 12:30 p.m.

This series is a paean to the importance of mealtime. Over the course of 26 episodes, Daytime Emmy winner Lidia Bastianich conjures simple, seasonal and economical dishes with grace, confidence and love. She teaches viewers to draw on their roots, allow for spontaneity, and cultivate a sense of home in the kitchen. Lidia makes rustic staples, including oatmeal biscuits, apple cider-braised pork shoulder, potato pizza, salmon with mustard sauce, country onion soup, lentil country salad and Grandma Rosa's apple cake. Filled with tips and techniques collected through years in the kitchen and at the family table, Lidia channels her passion for teaching into a fun and trustworthy curriculum of kitchen wisdom.
