Lots of new PBS KIDS episodes are headed your way in February, including a one-hour special from “Odd Squad” and Valentine’s Day themed episodes from “Dinosaur Train,” “Molly of Denali” and “Cyberchase.” Also, scan the schedule of PBS KIDS programs on our main channel, SCETV.

New Episodes

LET’S GO LUNA! visits five new cities and celebrates friendship around the world. The five new episodes premiere February 3-7 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (also at 5 p.m. on SCETV PBS KIDS).

ODD SQUAD kicks off season 3 with new agents and a new special. The one-hour special, ODD SQUAD: ODD BEGINNINGS, premieres President’s Day, Monday, February 17 at 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.; repeats Friday, February 21 at 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. New episodes premiere February 18-20 & 24-26 at 5 p.m.

SESAME STREET premieres new episodes on Mondays this month, February 3-24, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

MOLLY OF DENALI brings you new episodes all the way from Alaska February 10-13 at 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG bounds your way with new episodes, Fridays, February 14-28 at 10:30 a.m.

THE RHYTHM AND ROOTS OF ARTHUR is a new one-hour special featuring everyone’s favorite aardvark. When Arthur’s family and Buster take a trip to the Read family farm they learn about traditions and what it truly means to be a family. The special, which premieres January 20, repeats throughout that week.

 

Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum

Four new episodes premiere the week of January 20, beginning with a story featuring Jackie Robinson on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

 

Clifford, The Big Red Dog premieres new episodes on SCETV, Fridays at 10:30 a.m., January 3-31.

 

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood premieres new episodes on SCETV, January 6-8 at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. journeys with film director Ava DuVernay, actor S. Epatha Merkerson and musician Questlove to the unexpected places where their ancestors were scattered by slavery, upending their notions of African American history.

Examining Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' ascent to power and the global impact of the empire he built. The film also investigates the darker side of the company's rapid growth, and the challenge of trying to rein in the power of one of the richest men in the world.

In 1920s Toronto, the city's only female private detectives defy expectations and rebel against conventions to crack the cases the police don't want to touch. FRANKIE DRAKE MYSTERIES stars Lauren Lee Smith (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) as Frankie and Chantel Riley (Race) as Trudy.

In the charming cooking and travel series FLAVOR OF POLAND, host Aleksandra August meets chefs and home cooks from distinct regions of Poland. Throughout the series, Aleksandra explores the history, culture and culinary heritage of medieval cities like Krakow and Warsaw, visits an Olsztyn snail farm, learns to bake Toru gingerbread and tastes the hearty food of Polish highlanders in the mountain city of Zakopane. She then returns to her kitchen to share recreations of new and traditional Polish dishes.

Join journalist and host Cat Neville for an eye-opening journey into the heart of the food movement. TASTEMAKERS introduces viewers to artisans across the United States who are defining the flavor of American food today. The series takes viewers from a shellfish operation in the icy waters off the coast of Washington, to a sheep's milk dairy in the rolling hills of Missouri, to an organic tofu factory in the heart of Chicago. Each episode explores how the artisans do their work, traveling to unique corners of the country while uncovering regional food culture and history along the way. Throughout the series, viewers also learn what drives these makers, what inspires them, and how they perfected their craft.

Travels with Darley follows five-time Emmy nominated host Darley Newman as she travels with local people in beautiful and awe-inspiring locations to experience history, culture, food, music, art and adventure. Each episode introduces viewers to diverse cultures and traditions and what makes each location truly unique. Darley's on-camera local counterparts are the true stars of each episode, as they lead Darley through their world. Viewers learn about places and cultures that are less publicized by traditional media, as well as new things about places they thought they knew, bridging global cultures and inspiring viewers to look at the world in a new way.

 

Friday Night Arts Programs

February Fridays at 9 p.m. on SCETV means Ken Burns and exploring the history of country music - from its roots in ballads and hymns to its eventual mainstream success - and meet the unforgettable characters and storytellers who made it "America's Music." Directed by Ken Burns. Note: you don’t have to be a country music fan to enjoy this series.

 

2/7       9:00 p.m.         Country Music: Will the Circle Be Unbroken (1968-1972)

Learn how country music responds to a nation divided by the Vietnam War, as Army captain turned songwriter Kris Kristofferson sets a new lyrical standard, and artists like Bob Dylan and the Byrds find a recording home in Nashville.

 

2/14      9:00 p.m.         Country Music: Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way (1973-1983)

Witness a vibrant era in country music, with Dolly Parton finding mainstream success; Hank Williams, Jr. and Rosanne Cash emerging from their famous fathers' shadows; and Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings launching the "Outlaw" movement.

 

2/21      9:00 p.m.         Country Music: Don’t Get Above Your Raisin (1984-1996)

Learn how "New Traditionalists" like George Strait, Randy Travis and the Judds help country music stay true to its roots. Witness both the rise of superstar Garth Brooks and the return of an aging Johnny Cash to the industry he helped create.

Join Chef Marcus Samuelsson in Philadelphia, where he meets new friends and old, and learns about the city's Italian food scene while sampling everything from pizza to cannoli, with plenty of red sauce, burrata and handmade pasta in between.

Dive into a network of unexplored caves under the Yucatan Peninsula with Steve Backshall. After trekking through kilometers of scorpion-infested Mexican jungle to reach the caves, he faces the terror of being lost in an underwater silt cloud.

Self-described as "Ken Burns meets This American Life meets Bill Nye the Science Guy," RECONNECTING ROOTS is a quirky, youthful half-hour cultural series that seeks to bridge generations and bring viewers together. Hosted by Gabriel McCauley, each half-hour episode explores the last 150 years of American progress, culture and innovation, through interviews with Americans reconnecting to lessons learned by their parents and grandparents.

 

2/6       9:00 p.m.         America’s Forest with Chuck Leavell pt 3* Heir Property

America's Forests with Chuck Leavell travels to South Carolina to tell the compelling story of African-American tree farmers who trace their land back to the end of slavery. Hosted by famous musician, keyboardist, and conservationist Chuck Leavell, the episode captures personal stories of family land told by these landowners, as well as tree plantings and forest cruising.

 

2/6       10:00 p.m.        Thou Shalt Not Kill continues (weekly)

Guido, Valeria's brother, urges her to stop withdrawing from her family and her mother. After a tense altercation, Lucia understands that her family will never be able to forgive her and that perhaps it would be best for her to disappear.

 

2/9       7:00 p.m.         Dreams of Hope*

DREAMS OF HOPE tells the story of a historic concert at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, more than 50 years after a hate crime there killed four African American girls. Conducted by Dr. Henry Panion III, the concert performance features musical instruments that serve as symbols of hope - violins restored from Holocaust concentration camps. The documentary incorporates behind-the-scenes interviews reflecting on the purpose of the event: to celebrate the resilience of those who have faced hate, discrimination and racism.

Celebrate love with Lucy Worsley as she delves into the seductive history of British romance, uncovering the social, political and cultural forces that shaped ideals of romantic love during the Georgian era, including the novels of Jane Austen.

An Evening With Debra Lee explores the interesting life and career of one the nation's top women in media and entertainment and features tribute performances from Eric Benet and Chaka Khan.

 

2/16      7:00 p.m.         Parkland: Healing A Community and Nation*  1 year Anniversary

On February 14, 2018 a shooter took 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. PARKLAND: HEALING A COMMUNITY AND A NATION shows how Parkland has turned its grief into healing and meaningful action toward ending gun violence, following the 25-city #NeverAgain summer bus tour. The documentary also features positive change made closer to home, including an anthem honoring Stoneman-Douglas students by Melissa Manchester and the Douglas choir.

 

2/16       8:00 p.m.         Very British Romance with Lucy Worsley – Episode 2

Travel back to the Victorian era with Lucy Worsley as she delves into the steamy history of British romance, uncovering the social, political and cultural forces that shaped ideals of romantic love during Victoria's reign.

A look at the life and career of Harry Lennix, one of Chicago's most notable actors, is showcased.

 

2/23      6:00 p.m.         Rick Stevers Hunger and Hope: Lessons From Ethiopia and Guatemala*

In the op-ed style documentary RICK STEVES HUNGER AND HOPE: LESSONS FROM ETHIOPIA AND GUATEMALA, travel host Rick Steves' concern with world hunger relief leads him on a rare journey outside of Europe. Rick meets struggling farmers in Ethiopia and Guatemala, and discovers what life is like for the 700 million people living on under $2 per day. Then, the optimistic travel host learns from locals and experts about innovative solutions which have decreased hunger rates by half in the last generation, and promise to make further improvements in the developing world.
