Wild Kratts: Amazin’ Amazon Adventure—Premieres Monday, April 20 on SCETV 

In this new one-hour special, premiering April 20, the Kratts brothers take their friend Aviva down the mysterious Amazon River to help her find inspiration for her next amazing invention. The special will play twice on April 20, 22 & 24, and will play once each day on April 25 & 26.

What Not to Miss in April 

World on Fire on Masterpiece – Series Premieres on Sunday, April 5 at 9 p.m. on SCETV 

World on Fire is an adrenalized, emotionally gripping and resonant World War II drama that follows the intertwining fates of ordinary people in five countries as they grapple with the effects of the war on their everyday lives.Set in Britain, Poland, France, Germany and the United States, the events of the seven-hour series take place during the first year of the war. The stellar cast includes Academy Award®-winner Helen Hunt (As Good As it Gets, Mad About You), Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), Academy Award®-nominee Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), Jonah Hauer-King (Little Women on MASTERPIECE, Howard’s End) and Blake Harrison (A Very English Scandal). 

 

The Gene: An Intimate History – Series Premieres on Tuesday, April 7 at 8 p.m. on SCETV 

“The Gene: An Intimate History” brings vividly to life the story of today’s revolution in medical science through present-day tales of patients and doctors at the forefront of the search for genetic treatments, interwoven with a compelling history of the discoveries that made this possible and the ethical challenges raised by the ability to edit DNA with precision. 

 

Blood Sugar Rising – Airs Wednesday, April 15 at 9 p.m. on SCETV 

Blood Sugar Rising follows the diabetes epidemic in the U.S. Diabetes and pre-diabetes affect over 100 million people in the US, costing more than $325 billion each year. Blood Sugar Rising puts human faces to these statistics, exploring the history and science of the illness through portraits of Americans whose stories shape the film. 

 

The Man Who Tried to Feed the World: American Experience – Airs Tuesday, April 21 at 8 p.m. on SCETV 

In 1966, drought and an exploding population confronted India with the imminent threat of a severe famine that many scientists and intellectuals feared was a harbinger of global catastrophes to come, as the world’s population outstripped its ability to produce food. India turned to Norman Borlaug, an unassuming plant breeder from Iowa whose combination of scientific knowledge and raw determination had made him a legend among a small handful of fellow specialists. 

The Man Who Tried to Feed the World recounts the story of the man who would not only solve India’s famine problem but would go on to lead a “Green Revolution” of worldwide agriculture programs estimated to have saved one billion lives. He was awarded the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his work but spent the rest of his life watching his methods and achievements come under increasing fire. 

 

Inside the Vatican – Airs Tuesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. on SCETV 

Filmed over the course of one year, Inside the Vatican gains unprecedented access to one of the most important places in the Christian world. Nestled in the city of Rome, the Vatican is the head-quarters of the Catholic Church and an independent city-state.

4/04    8 p.m.    Father Brown – Season 8 Premiere 

Based on the short stories by G K Chesterton, Father Brown follows the kindly cleric as he solves crimes in his community. It is a quintessentially English world: drawing rooms in large country houses, miles of countryside, village halls and secret gardens, as well as country fairs, railway stations and rural parish churches. Each episode sees the enigmatic priest investigate a crime in his own particular way, using intuition and psychology. Father Brown discovers the truth of a crime by looking into the truth of the soul - the passions, dark secrets, hidden desires. Many years spent hearing his parishioners' confessions have given him an uncanny insight into the origins of evil and the workings of the criminal mind. But the stories are not concerned with judgment--Father Brown is more interested in saving souls than in bringing the guilty to justice.

Tragedy hits the tiny paradise island of Saint-Marie when DI Richard Poole is murdered at his university reunion party. Can replacement DI Humphrey Goodman, earn the respect of his new colleagues by solving this particularly sensitive and challenging case?

The Farmer, Maggie, shares her agricultural knowledge of how the food they use on the show is grown and raised while The Foodie, Lindsey, creates simple recipes that combine the spirit of Kentucky with her flare for global cuisine. A lifestyle series about flower arrangement, design and instruction. Host J Schwanke – a fourth-generation florist, award-winning author, and well-known floral educator – aims to help viewers have fun with flowers and incorporate their beauty into their homes and everyday lives. The series takes viewers around the country, touring flower farms, greenhouses, markets, festivals and special events. 

Episode: Host J Schwanke incorporates blooms and branches from the garden into arrangements for the home.

Thought-provoking series of eco-topics ranging from reconnecting kids to nature, green jobs, and healthy lifestyles limiting the impacts of toxins on our home and bodies. The series aims to empower viewers with practical solutions geared toward saving money, treading lighter on the planet, and improving quality of life. 

Episode: Engineers and wildlife managers are helping animals find safe passage in a developed world.

Weekends with Yankee is the ultimate travel guide to the unique attractions that define New England. The magazine-style series is hosted by world-class explorer and Emmy Award-winning host Richard Wiese and Yankee Magazine senior food editor Amy Traverso. Season four explores the sights, sounds and tastes of all six New England states, from the women's world cup in skiing to the nightlife of Provincetown, Mass.
