Warren Wise, named in May 2020 as a PBS Digital Innovator All-Star, is a science teacher at Kelly Mill Med Pro Middle School, Richland District Two. As one of 18 Digital Innovator All-Stars from across the country, Mr. Wise was selected from a cohort of extraordinary educators doing innovative work in their schools and districts. An educator for 17 years, Mr. Wise has taught Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Intro to Engineering, Graphic Design, and Middle Level Science. He received his BS in Physics from Benedict College, a MS degree in Educational Technology from Boise State University, a Ed.S. degree from Liberty University and has served as a Chemical Operations Specialist in the United States Army Reserves acquiring the rank of Sergeant.
In 2019, Mr. Wise was named South Carolina’s first ever STEM Educator of the Year and was the recipient of the Presidential Citation Award, in the Education Advocacy category, from the Annual Freedom Fund Celebration Committee and the SC State Conference NAACP. In 2018, Mr. Wise was the only teacher in SC to be accepted into the Center for Disease Control’s Science Ambassador Fellowship program where he went on to create a first of its kind public health/epidemiology class for his middle school students.
In addition to his classroom teaching, Mr. Wise has also taught an afterschool STEM class for elementary students, served as a University of South Carolina Apple Core Initiative Advisory Board Member, and is a proud participant of the 100Kin10 2020 Cohort Teacher Forum. As a leader in STEM education, he preaches to his students, “always become better than you were yesterday.” He enjoys using PBS KIDS Design Squad resources to help students learn about the engineering design process and he incorporates various PBS LearningMedia science resources to his lessons. As featured in SCETV’s November 2019 Carolina Classrooms episode on STEAM, Mr. Wise has a clear passion for STEM education and empowering students with the latest in technology and awareness of career opportunities.
