NEW ETV Teacher Recertification Courses (offered also in each subsequent session):

Teaching and Learning in Carolina Classrooms, Series II (20 renewal credits) (For all SC educators)

Through resources examining a variety of educational topics, this ETV Teacher Recertification course builds on the content of the Series I course. Teaching and learning in the 21st century classroom is much more than the traditional lecture-based classroom. Teachers are the facilitators of learning, encouraging students to be creative, to evaluate and analyze, and to apply their knowledge. Today we have changed our methods of instruction from delivering content to engaging students in the content, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach as we work to give our students options for learning. Educators of all subject areas/grade levels – classroom & special area teachers, media specialists, guidance professionals, administration - benefit from these courses. Similar to the popular SC Teachers on Teaching courses. (NOTE: Recommended educators participate in Series I and then Series II; both courses offered each session. Recommended for teachers of all subject areas/grade levels.)

Between the Waters: History Across the Curriculum at Hobcaw Barony, Series II (20 renewal credits) (For teachers of grades 3-12)

The second innovative course that provides engaging content to integrate history using SCETV’s immersive website Between the Waters will be available for the first time in the SPRING II session 2019. Educators must complete the first course before taking this second course. The first course - Series I (available in current Spring I session and in subsequent sessions) - walks participants through the site, guiding an exploration of Hobcaw Barony’s history from Native American life through slavery, Reconstruction and both World Wars by examining focus sites on topics including food, hunting, sports, architecture, religion, art, and nature. Interviews with well-known scholars, archival film and photographs, nature footage, and classroom lesson plans provide a picture of the Baruch family’s Hobcaw retreat near Georgetown that is a South Carolina treasure. The second course - Series II (available starting Spring II session and in subsequent sessions) - continues the exploration of Hobcaw, examining other focus sites with a concentration on African-American life in the low country area of our state. “Hobcaw Witness” interviews and historical footage provide a rich history. (NOTE: Educators MUST complete BTW, Series I course prior to taking Series II. Series II course will be offered for first time in SPRING II and available in subsequent sessions.)
