Meet the Helpers – New resource and community event!

Join us on Saturday, October 26, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at SCETV’s main studios in Columbia for a free community engagement fair to promote Meet the Helpers.

Created by WUCF in Florida, Meet the Helpers is a new public media initiative designed to introduce children to public safety careers and to assist them with emergency preparedness.

SCETV is partnering with WUCF, as well as other South Carolina partners, to showcase the community helpers that are available for support in times of crises (e.g., policeman, firemen, 911 operators, paramedics, teachers, and even meteorologists). State partners for this event include SCHEART, SCEMD, the SC Fire Academy, and SLED.

In addition to the community engagement, SCETV received grant funding to conduct research around stress management and anxiety for young children in times of crises. The Education team is in the process of selecting participants for the research and will share additional details as they unfold.

In the meantime, take a moment to view some of the MEET THE HELPERS videos online. And don’t forget to join us from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, at 1041 George Rogers Blvd., in Columbia.
