Reading Program Aims to Make Summer Count
Reading well at a young age is the most important building block for later success in school and life. Make Summer Count is a summer program that helps close the achievement gap by giving children and families the resources they need to be able to read all summer long.
The program combats summer reading loss by encouraging students and families in 29 high-need Greenville County public elementary schools to remain engaged in reading through the summer by providing students with free, new, self-selected, high-interest books and hosting school-based Family Reading Nights. The program was created by Public Education Partners.
Public Education Partners' Make Summer Count recently received top honors at the 2017 Dick and Tunky Riley WhatWorksSC Award for Excellence.
