Colonial Williamsburg’s HERO Live! is designed to support American history education for 4-8th grade students and this month’s program Civil War Ironclads airs April 14 at 1:00 p.m. All SC schools may view on ETV’s SC Channel (SCC).

Using 21st century technology and dramatizations with re-enactors to play the roles of historical figures, the HERO Live! programs are correlated to standards, providing a compelling learning experience.  Civil War Ironclads gives students a look at the famous ships of the period.

In the Civil War, both the Union and the Confederacy raced to build armored, steam-powered warships that were the ancestors of today’s navies. Meet the people behind and aboard the “ironclads” – and relive the famous 1862 battle between the Monitor and Merrimack.  Watch HERO Live! Civil War Ironclads on April 14 at 1:00 p.m. on ETV’s SC Channel (SCC). (Check local listings for SCC in your area.)

All SC schools may view HERO Live! with fair use rights (use for 10 days and erase within 45 days). If your school would like “full access,” which entitles your school to receive the supporting teacher materials, and keep the recorded programs for life of the recording, plus have access to all programs/resources in HERO (History Education Resources Online) multimedia library, you may pay $50 per program to participate. For information, contact Annie Lewis at CWEFT at or (757)565-8986.

RIGHTS: ALL SC schools may view with 10-day fair use rights. (Record and use for 10 days and erase within 45 days.) Districts with VBrick systems can record and set expiration date for 10 days after each program airs. ONLY schools that get a scholarship OR pay Colonial Williamsburg to participate can keep the copy of program(s) for the life of the tape/DVD, access guides, get online access, and have phone interaction with the historians/re-enactors.
