A Story of Resilience: Family Starts Gardening Business to Recover from the Flood

Shawntel Green and her children were displaced by the flood that hit South Carolina in October 2015. After relocating to a new house in Hopkins, the children fell in love with the rosemary plants in their backyard. They decided to create a store to sell products from the herbs, so they could replace belongings lost to the flood and give back to the community. Taking entrepreneurial cues from their mother, the children set up an online store, therosemarystore.com, and began to make everything from eucalyptus nourishing oil to “Mama’s Tender-Headed Mojo,” a blend of rosemary and coconut oil used to detangle hair.
