Spartanburg Workforce

November 2, 2011 - Posted in Business by William Richardson

Eight-five percent of Spartanburg's job growth is manufacturing. Usually there are many manufacturing jobs available in the area even though the unemployment rate is high. Students and parents need to be educated about jobs that are available in the region where they live. High School student career paths are a majority of times, outside of what's available.

The number 1 answer from high school students in the Spartanburg area about their career paths is #1: CSI Investigator. The #2 answer is video game programmer. These are not available in the Spartanburg area to the greater extent.

There are also many misconceptions as to perceived working conditions in modern factories compared to the past. The Upstate Chamber, the Upstate Regional Education Centers and manufacturers are working on better ways to educate everyone about Workforce opportunities in the local area.
