Clemson Extension Agent and Host of "Making It Grow Amanda McNulty travels to Jamestown in the Mars Bluff Community of Florence, SC and talks with Terry James about The Jamestown Foundation. The Jamestown settlement was founded in 1870 by Ervin James a former slave. Ervin wanted to leave his family with landownership rather than a legacy of slavery and sharecropping. Five years after The Civil War, during the Reconstruction Era, Ervin bought more than 200 acres of land near the Pee Dee River. from 1870 to present day the land is still owned by the descendants of Ervin James.

Sumter High School Visual Art teacher Heidi Adler also brings in some examples from other students at Sumter High. In addition, Sumter School District Elementary Art Teacher Amanda Cox provides some tips for preserving jack-o-lanterns and shows us how to create designs using cookie cutters and even a drill!

For this segment on "Making It Grow", Clemson Extension Water Resources Agent Terasa Lott visits the home of Lyn Pesterfield in Boiling Springs, SC. Lyn’s transformation of her yard won her the first ever "Carolina Yard of the Year Contest”. This contest set out to recognize excellence in environmentally friendly landscaping. Contestants were asked to fill out a Carolina Yards Scorecard, to send a narrative explaining why they value environmentally friendly landscaping and to provide photo and/or video documentation of the yard.
