SC Department of Insurance Director Ray Farmer spoke with SCETV recently about the importance of getting flood insurance as soon as possible.  It’s important to understand it takes 30 days before the insurance goes into effect.  

Just one inch of water can cause around $25,000 worth of damage, yet most South Carolinians do not have flood Insurance and home owners policies do not cover flooding.  Right now less than 10% of people in SC have flood insurance, according to the SC DOI.

By The River Production Underway

By The River set is under construction for Season 2.

Production is now underway for the second season of By The River, a collaborative effort of SCETV and The University of South Carolina Beaufort’s communication studies program.  The interview-style show, that highlights authors from South Carolina and the southeast, has a whole new look this year.  Instead of using the virtual set shown in Season One, a new physical set was built by Josh Thompson of Columbia, who will also serve as the show’s lighting director.

The annual PGA tournament held for half a century on Hilton Head Island is a big attraction, not just for long-time golf fans, but for budding ones, too.

They’ve each demonstrated a willingness to try new mediums, practice new skills and through that, they’ve displayed a passion that- before prison- they never knew they had.

New Look Coming for By The River

New By The River set

Season Two of By The River will look a whole lot different than the first season. This month a new set is being constructed, with the help of the University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) students who also take part in the show's production.  While the entire look won't be revealed for a couple months, we can reveal that the set has a "coastal theme."  

Also, the By The River author selection committee has met and reviewed author submissions for Season Two.  Authors selected should anticipate a call or email within the next few weeks.

Culinary Institute of the South set to open in 2020 in Bluffton

The Culinary Institute of the South at the Technical College of the Lowcountry is set to open in the fall of 2020, according to the Beaufort County school.  

This 26,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility is funded by more than $11.5 million from Beaufort County, Beaufort County School District and the Town of Bluffton.

Author John Warley To Appear on By The River

John Warley's book A Southern Girl is about the international adoption of his only daughter and the revelation of "subtle racism and exclusionary activities" that had played such a big role in his traditional southern upbringing. In his interview on By The River, Warley shares how his beloved late wife championed an idea of adopting a daughter from Korea.
