South Carolina Infant Mental Health Association
According to the South Carolina Infant Mental Health Association (SCIMHA), early childhood is more than milestones, it’s the foundation for lifelong mental health. From birth to age five, a child’s experiences and relationships shape how they learn, connect, and grow.
SCIMHA believes that strong, supportive relationships between children and caregivers are at the heart of healthy development. That belief drives them to support families and the professionals who serve them.
As South Carolina’s hub for infant mental health resources, training, and programs, the organization supports young children and those who care for them; working in early care and education settings, alongside families, within child welfare, and with professionals across the state.
Currently, SCIMHA is focused on the upcoming hurricane season. Their hope is that everyone who serves or cares for children has prepared for storms, physically and emotionally, before they arrive. That’s where their Hurricane Preparedness Resource Hub comes in! The hub is designed to help caregivers and professionals support young children experiencing scary feelings before, during, and after a storm.
Visitors to the hub will find free, easy-to-use tools like trauma-informed trainings, a support line, ready-to-use social media content, comfort kit guides, booklists, and more. For those working and caring for children ages 0–5, SCIMHA has something to offer, from infant early childhood workforce development to HelpmegrowSC.org, a free resource connecting families to developmental screenings, community resources, and behavioral health support. Visit scimha.org to explore hurricane preparedness tools or learn more about programs designed to help South Carolina’s youngest children thrive. Because early, healthy relationships are the foundation for lifelong mental well-being.
