As Human Trafficking Prevention Month concludes, South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) is underscoring the importance of sustained education and awareness by highlighting its ongoing partnership with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and the South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force through TraffickProof SC.

TraffickProof SC is the state’s first human trafficking prevention education initiative. Through an established partnership, SCETV designs and produces age-appropriate educational videos and curriculum aligned with middle and high school health education standards. The materials address key topics including human trafficking awareness, online safety, sex trafficking and labor trafficking, and are intended to support educators, school counselors and prevention education coordinators in classroom and community settings.

Human Trafficking Prevention Month concludes alongside renewed statewide attention following a press conference hosted earlier this month by Attorney General Alan Wilson, during which the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office released its annual human trafficking report. The report documented 315 human trafficking tips investigated in 2025, involving more than 300 potential victims across 41 counties. According to the findings, 86 percent of the tips involved sex trafficking, and the majority of identified victims were children.

The TraffickProof SC curriculum addresses key topics including an overview of human trafficking, staying safe online, labor trafficking and sex trafficking. The materials emphasize recognizing warning signs, understanding methods used by traffickers and identifying appropriate steps to take if exploitation is suspected. Educators are provided with an educator’s guide and additional tools to support classroom instruction. In addition to the existing TraffickProof SC curriculum, SCETV is currently working with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and the Human Trafficking Task Force to produce a second iteration of TraffickProof SC designed for use in community settings.

SCETV is also producing educational videos for Travel Watch SC, the South Carolina Attorney General’s prevention series focused on increasing awareness of human trafficking indicators within business and industry sectors. The initial videos in this series focus on the hotel and restaurant industry. Both initiatives, along with SCETV’s ongoing support, are referenced in the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office 2025 Human Trafficking Report.

In addition to its partnership with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, SCETV offers programming that continues to inform the public about human trafficking in South Carolina, including an episode of Palmetto Perspectives and coverage on the South Carolina Lede, featuring conversations with law enforcement, state agencies, advocates and survivor-led organizations.

SCETV does not host the TraffickProof SC content or provide trainings directly, and requests for human trafficking trainings can be sent to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office. Educators seeking information on accessing TraffickProof SC resources can visit TraffickProofSC.org. An overview video of the TraffickProof SC initiative is available online.
