South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) invites families and community members to a free screening event celebrating the launch of the new PBS KIDS animated series, Phoebe & Jay. The event will take place Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. – noon at the SCETV studios in Columbia.
Designed for children ages 3–5 and their families, the event will feature an exclusive preview of Phoebe & Jay, along with educational, interactive activities that support early learners in building everyday literacy skills. These experiences are designed to help children understand and use everyday written information such as signs, labels and simple instructions, so they can solve problems and complete daily tasks with confidence.
Created by Genie Deez and Thy Than and produced by Phoebe & Jay Productions and Mainframe Studios, known for SuperKitties, CoComelon and Octonauts, Phoebe & Jay follows curious twins as they discover adventure and community at Tobsy Towers. Through relatable, family-centered stories, the series introduces preschoolers to the kinds of everyday texts they see all around them, helping young viewers build early literacy skills and learn how reading and writing support everyday problem-solving.
At the heart of the series is a curriculum designed to strengthen foundational literacy and executive function skills, including focused attention, flexible thinking and task persistence. Activities facilitated by SCETV’s education team align with Ready Kindergartner, supporting early learning through problem-solving, observation, communication, cooperation with others and the use of fine motor skills. As Phoebe and Jay uncover adventures in Tobsy Towers, the apartment building where they live with their family, the series models how children can apply early reading, writing, listening and speaking skills such as recognizing familiar signs, following multi-step directions and using words to solve problems in meaningful, everyday ways.
Phoebe & Jay premieres on ETV on Feb. 2, airing weekdays at 9:30 a.m. Viewers can also stream the program at SCETV.org, the SCETV app and the PBS app. Viewers outside South Carolina are encouraged to check local public television listings for air dates and times in their area. Additionally, the show can be watched on SCETV’s 24/7 PBS KIDS channel beginning on Feb. 2 starting at 8:30 a.m. Viewers can access SCETV’s 24/7 PBS KIDS channel by using a digital antenna, through cable television providers or on the SCETV website. Find more Phoebe & Jay games and activities at pbskids.org/phoebeandjay. A collection of educational resources will be available on pbslearningmedia.org and pbs.org/parents.
