South Carolina Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum

Founded in 1896, The South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum is the state’s military history museum, exhibiting South Carolina’s military material culture from the colonial era to the present, and providing a variety of educational experiences and programming.

The Relic Room’s newest exhibit, “A War with No Front Lines: South Carolina and the Vietnam War: 1965-1973,” honors the more than 100,000 South Carolinians who served in Vietnam, and gives the public an opportunity to explore the experiences, service and sacrifices of military men and women while helping visitors better understand through this important exhibition.

Visitors will immerse themselves in the stories of South Carolina veterans, through experiences reproducing what it was like fighting in the jungle, in the Mekong Delta, and in the cities of South Vietnam.

“Including South Carolina Public Radio in our outreach allows us to reach a broad, thoughtful, and engaged audience that values history, education and civic dialogue,” said Executive Director Allen Roberson. “Public Radio listeners are especially interested in stories that add depth and context to our shared past, which aligns closely with our new Vietnam War exhibit.”

“SCETV and Public Radio play a vital role in connecting citizens through trusted, educational programming,” continued Roberson, “mirroring our own efforts to convey our state’s stories, spark informed conversation and ensure that important chapters of history are remembered and understood by current and future generations.”

Roberson enjoys a variety of programs on SCETV & Public Radio, including Austin City Limits, Washington Week with The Atlantic, and Ken Burn’s The American Revolution.

The museum, open Tuesday through Saturday, is located in the Columbia Mills Building, sharing the building with South Carolina State Museum, at 301 Gervais Street in Suite B, in Columbia.
