As a public media organization, SCETV has an important role to play in convening meaningful conversations, elevating diverse perspectives, and sharing resources. This month, we will be exploring numerous issues that affect individuals, families and communities across South Carolina. As Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins, SCETV’s ongoing South Carolina Speaks: Focus on Domestic Violence initiative will highlight the impact of abuse in our state and the ways we can work together to address it. New episodes of IMPACT South Carolina and Palmetto Perspectives air back-to-back Oct. 15 beginning at 7 p.m. on ETV, examining the cycle of abuse and how individuals, families and communities can find healing. Continuing this conversation with a focus on younger audiences, a new episode of SCETV Safe Space airs Oct. 22 at 8 p.m., exploring how young people can recognize harmful behaviors, or “red flags,” in relationships and understand what healthy relationships should look like.
Hispanic Heritage Month continues through Oct. 15 with programming celebrating Latino history, culture and artistic expression. The Hispanic Heritage Awards airs Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. on ETV and repeats Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. on the South Carolina Channel, followed by Voces – Asco: Without Permission at 10 p.m. on ETV.
October also marks the Oct. 10 launch of SCETV+, a new locally curated streaming platform bringing SCETV productions, PBS programming, livestreamed channels and South Carolina-focused content together. At the South Carolina State Fair, Oct. 15-25, families can visit the SCETV booth to explore SCETV+, Sound Shift and educational resources while meeting SCETV personalities.
The launch of SCETV+ has been met with excitement and energy across the organization, and it reflects the extraordinary hard work of our team to bring this vision to fruition. From the initial conversations and implementation to content curation, technology and launch preparations, colleagues across SCETV have worked collaboratively and with a shared commitment to creating a new way for South Carolinians to experience the content and services they value.
We are also creating new experiences for families with activities like Studio Boo on Oct. 28 at SCETV’s Columbia studio, featuring indoor trick-or-treating, crafts and Halloween fun. Digital audiences can explore Unknown, premiering Oct. 28 on streaming platforms, while radio listeners can hear a new episode of Who, What, When recorded live from New Orleans later this month.
Together, these October offerings invite South Carolinians to learn, celebrate, connect and discover something new. We are grateful for the continued support of our community, our state and our audiences, whose engagement and trust makes our work possible.
