The MANRRS Redfern Community Garden at Clemson University | Making It Grow

Clemson Extension Agent Carmen Ketron visits the MANRRS Redfern Community Garden on the campus of Clemson University to talk with the garden’s founder, Clemson horticulture graduate Isaiah “Zay” Barton, about the transformation of the space. As an undergraduate, Zay recognized the potential of an area next to the Redfern Health Center and, with the support of MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences), turned it into a thriving garden that now produces vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Surplus harvests are donated to Clemson’s Paw Pantry, helping reduce food insecurity. Today, the Clemson MANRRS chapter continues to maintain and expand the garden, welcoming both volunteers and donations to support its growth.
