We visit the St. Matthews, SC home of Dr. Brandon Huber from SC State 1890 Research & Extension, where he grows giant pumpkins and watermelons for State Fair competitions. Each of these massive fruits is carefully tended under its own special tent, some with fans to keep the stems dry, and webcams that let Brandon monitor them when he’s away. He also shares the details on what it takes to cultivate these giants and explains the many challenges he works hard to prevent. We then follow the process of transporting his largest pumpkin and see the final weights and results of his pumpkins and watermelons at both the South Carolina and North Carolina State Fairs.
